3500 kg of waste tea seized along with suspects
A lorry transporting 3500 kg of waste tea without a license was seized by the Hatton Police today (07) along with two suspects.
Officers of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Hatton Police have received information that waste tea is being transported from Welamboda, Gampola to Talawakele.
Accordingly, police officers have stopped and inspected the lorry that was moving at the Malliappu junction in Hatton.
After it was revealed that the lorry in question did not have a license to transport waste tea, the lorry driver and the driver's assistant were taken into police custody.
The officers of the Hatton Police Anti-Corruption Unit, which conducted the raid, said that the seized stock of garbage tea and the suspects will be produced before the Hatton Magistrate's Court.
The lorry and the suspects have been arrested under the supervision of Hatton Divisional Superintendent of Police Pradeep Weerasekara, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nissanka Godamunna and Hatton Headquarters Chief Police Inspector W.R.A.D. Sugathadasa.
