A person who smuggled heroin through the EC Cash system to several areas in Kalutara and surrounding areas has been arrested based on information received from intelligence officers attached to the Kalutara Crime Branch.
The police say that the person arrested is a follower of a member of a major organized crime gang hiding in Dubai.
Heroin worth about Rs. 1.5 million was also recovered at the time of the suspect's arrest.
Initial investigations have revealed that the suspect had distributed heroin using the EC Cash system to several areas in Kalutara, Matugama, Panadura, Payagala, Beruwala and Matugama.
A 41-year-old resident of Palathota, Kalutara has been arrested.
A three-wheeler and a mobile phone have been seized by the police along with the suspect and the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Court.
