A woman and another person have died in two fatal road accidents at two locations.
Police say the accidents occurred in the Pitigala and Thihagoda areas.
One accident occurred when a woman was hit by a three-wheeler traveling from Gallinda, Niyagama towards Horangalla on the Elpitiya road via Mapalagama, Kahaduwa.
The woman who was injured in the accident was admitted to the Gallinda Hospital and later to the Karapitiya Hospital for further treatment, police say.
A 67-year-old woman from the Thalgaswala area of Niyagama has died in this way.
The body has been deposited at the Karapitiya Hospital and the driver of the three-wheeler has been arrested in connection with the accident.
Pitigala Police are conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, another accident has occurred in the Horonduwa area of the Matara-Middeniya road when the rider of a motorcycle travelling from Hakmana towards Matara lost control and collided with an oncoming bus.
Police say that the motorcycle that collided with the bus overturned and was crushed by the bus itself, and the motorcyclist, who was injured, died on admission to the Matara hospital.
The deceased is a 40-year-old resident of the Yatiyana area.
The driver of the bus has been arrested in connection with the accident and the Thihagoda Police are conducting further investigations.
