Thunderstorms in many areas



The Meteorological Department says that atmospheric conditions are favorable for thunderstorms in many parts of the island in the evening.
The statement also states that showers or thundershowers may occur at places in many parts of the island after about 2 pm.
The Meteorological Department says that fairly heavy showers of more than 75 mm may occur at some places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, North Central and Eastern provinces.
The department further said that showers may also occur in the Eastern Province and Hambantota District during the morning.
The statement also states that foggy conditions may prevail in some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and North Central provinces and in the Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts during the morning.
The Department of Meteorology also requests the public to take necessary measures to minimize the risks of temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
The Department of Meteorology has also issued a weather forecast for the sea areas around the island for the next 24 hours.

Rain conditions

Showers or thundershowers may occur at isolated places in the sea areas off the coast from Hambantota to Pottuvil and Batticaloa to Trincomalee.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the remaining sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Wind

The wind is blowing without a specific direction and the speed of the wind is about 15 to 25 kilometers per hour.

Sea conditions

The sea areas around the island are in normal condition.
During thunderstorms, strong winds may temporarily occur in those sea areas, which may then become temporarily very rough.
