Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra says

A program to provide scholarship for children of migrant workers through the President's Fund has been initiated, says Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra.

He expressed these views at a press conference held recently at the Government Information Department on the program to provide provisions to the people from the President's Fund.

The Minister further commented,

A program to provide scholarship to children of migrant workers through the President's Fund has been initiated as part of the political transformation that took place after the new government was formed.

The President's Fund is something that should be a right of the people. It is not a privilege.

Now we see that it is gradually transforming into a right of the people.

But in the past, there have been many discussions in Parliament and other places regarding the misuse of the President's Fund.

Now that era is over. At this moment, when a populist government has been established, we see that opportunities have been created for the people to receive various benefits.

It is very important to provide monthly allowances of Rs. 5000, 7000 and 8000 to children who are studying for their O/L, A/L and university education or vocational training.

Especially if they go abroad for work and face various troubles and harassment at that workplace, and if they do not receive their salary properly, that family has to face problems and issues.

That family is weakened.

In such cases, the education of the children of those families cannot be allowed to be disrupted at all.

Some disaster, accident or imprisonment may occur. There are cases where the right to education of children has been violated in such various cases.

But this situation must change.

The necessary environment has now been created for that.

This will be implemented from January 01 of this year.

That means it will be implemented from January 01, 2025.

If any person faces such a problem after January 01 of this year, their children can apply for this.

Overseas workers bring in most of the foreign exchange to this country.

Therefore, providing scholarships to their children is a very valuable thing.
