Local Government Elections May 06 – 33 Arrested in SJB
The Election Commission has announced that the Local Government Elections will be held on May 06.
The nomination process for the 2025 Local Government Elections, which began on March 03, ended at 12 pm today.
The Election Commission has announced the date of the election in a statement.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested 33 people who were preparing to take part in a motorcade in support of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
They were a group of party supporters who were preparing to take part in a motorcade in support of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya candidates in the Pathahewaheta electoral district of Kandy.
Eight vehicles that were prepared for the motorcade have also been taken into police custody in the Ampitiya area.
The police say that these vehicles were decorated with the images of the candidates as well as various flags.
